The SEO Process

Depending on your SEO package you will get all or some of these processes included.

1) SEO Consultation

We get to know your business and make an initial assessment of your website and SEO goals. We encourage you to ask any questions you have about SEO so you know exactly what is involved, what commitment you need to make to the project and how you can help. The goal is to get a good, solid understanding of your business, as well as identify anything that’s been done so far, and the current state of your online marketing.

2) Website Structure Analysis

We will smoke out all problems that potentially impede your websites performance. This part of the SEO campaign finds out if there are any site accessibility issues, such as:

  • Broken links
  • HTML code errors
  • Duplicate content
  • 404, 5xx and other server response code errors
  • Not indexed webpages
  • missing robots.txt or problematic robots file
  • Missing or too long titles and meta description
  • and all other issues that interfere with your site’s rankings

We will provide a detailed SEO website audit report with a plan to address all issues which can be fixed which could be affecting your website search engine rankings.

3) Keyword Analysis

Keyword Analysis is the area most people are familiar with but the area most laymen misunderstand.

Keyword research involves identifying a group of keyword phrases relevant to your business. It requires a considerable amount of time to find a balanced combination of two important factors, high searchers and relatively low competition.

During this stage we will take a list of keywords and expand it to include the best keywords that are worth your while targeting because they generate sufficient traffic. Using powerful keyword research software, and each keyword is analysed in depth to decide which are the best to target. We ensure that your site is correctly targeting the most important and lucrative search terms, as well as looking for new opportunities with low competition, but high searches.

Depending on your industry, opportunities and competition will vary, as an example, optimising for “web design” is ridiculously hard, why? Because must people optimising for that search term “know what they are doing”. They understand SEO. Optimise for “unique handmade wooden cutlery” and the competition will obviously be pretty low!

Using our SEO software suite we can search for keyword phrase opportunities, and potentially identify some  long tail keywords which you might be missing out on.

Once again you will get a full report on keyword opportunities and current standings in the search engines. This report will form the basis of your SEO campaign and allow us to benchmark the current SEO status for future improvements.

4) Content Analysis

Website Content is the part most websites are lacking and which is having the most impact on better rankings

Content is one of the most important factors to consider in search engine optimization. Search engines love sites with lots of great content. Most small businesses operate a “business card” website. You know the type, 5 pages consisting of an “about us”, “home” and contact page perhaps. The type of site we build time and time again for small businesses. However, we always tell businesses owners that having a website is just the start. You have to market that website to get it noticed. Having a website does not mean that you will have customers knocking at your door. YOU have to work at marketing that website with great content.

5) Page Optimisation

During this phase we will assess the most important pages on your website, making sure the following SEO techniques are correct and optimised.

  • Page Titles – Ideally, they need to lead off with your targeted keyword phrase for that page.
  • Navigation – Search engines cannot read images. You will need a text-based navigation system that the search engines can follow to ensure that all the important service and product pages are indexed.
  • Targeted Keyword Phrases – The placement and prominence given to keyword phrases on the page also affects your search engine placement. First paragraph, using larger font sizes and bolding the text can emphasize its importance.
  • Site Map – Developing a site map that includes a well-organized list of links to all the important pages of your site and includes a text link to the site map on your home page is the ideal way to make sure that all the site’s pages are indexed by the search engines.
  • ALT and META data – These are tags not seen by the site’s users; they are embedded in the site’s code. ALT tags refer to the text that describes an image. In optimizing your company’s name, an ALT tag placed behind the image of your company’s logo is ideal.
  • Clean up the Code – Navigation rollover scripts, other JavaScript-based code, and all CSS scripts should be taken out of the code of each page and put into external files to which each page of the site is referenced. Doing this means that your site’s keywords and content all move up in the code, communicating their importance to the search engines and boosting your site’s relevancy ratings.

6) Social SEO and Link Building

Social Media

During this phase of the process, we look at the different social platforms which may help you find potential customers. Facebook and Twitter are the main social platforms but Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube and many others can be considered depending on your business and industry. We can point you in the right direction with this part of the campaign but it will be you who manages the day to day running of these platforms with social announcements (unless a social campaign management service is selected).

Building In-Bound Links

Google views links to your site as votes for your site and your search engine position is adjusted accordingly. Obviously these links have to be high quality from great sites with good rankings.  A word of caution: free for all links sites and other low quality sites of that nature are of no use and, in fact, detract from your progress with penalties from the search engines. We will provide reports with potential link partners. It will be your decision which of these links to persue and it’s not always guaranteed that a potential partner will link to your website.

7) SEO Stratergy and Goal Setting

After conducting keyword research we will benchmark your current search engine positions for those search terms and provide a report for you to digest. Depending on the SEO package you choose, we will also compare these positions to a number of your competitors and the search engines we are focusing on.

8) Follow up Reporting and Continuous Assessment

We will run the SEO reports produced to develop the SEO campaign at regular intervals, post-optimization. Rankings, site traffic and other key metrics can then be compared, providing evidence of results and ability to assess if the campaign needs further assessment.
